Integral Potential Model for Organizations

Integral Potential Model for Organizations

The four domains of potential

What are domains of potential? How can they be significant for a new economic culture and evolutionary growth? Who is already accessing these domains? Which leaders have been the most effective for change in our society? Where do we find these people? In Silicon Valley, The White House, or in The Kremlin? – What do you think?

Perhaps it is leaders such as Steve Jobs, Elon Musk or Larry Page that have truly made a huge contribution to evolutionary growth. But how is it that these people can have such an effect on transforming the future? Described as “a visionary thinker with a rare intellect”, Simon Sinek,, New York based author and motivational speaker has this to say: „(…) whether individuals or organizations, we follow those who lead not because we have to, but because we want to. We follow those who lead not for them, but for ourselves. (…) it all starts from the inside out. It all starts with why“.[1]

>> YouTube #6 – Simon Sinek, how great leaders inspire action

He is describing a very fundamental and simple difference. Most organizations know WHAT they do, and HOW they do it. The WHAT describes the products and services they offer, and the HOW describes implementation and strategy. Only a few organizations know WHY they are doing something, and by this I’m not referring to making money and raising profits, because that is just a result, or as Götz Werner, founder of German company dm would put it, it is always just a means, never the purpose. So the WHY is referring to the significance or the contribution to the “big picture”. Why does the organization exist? Why should it be important to someone, or anyone? The majority of entrepreneurs think from the outside in – and first what, then why, because that’s how it’s always been. So how do companies like Apple, Tesla or Google approach it today?

Would Apple ever say: “We make a great computer with a great design that is easy to use. Do you want to buy one?” Or do they say: “Everything we make comes from the belief that we challenge the status quo. We believe in innovative and fresh thinking!
And we do it by creating products with a remarkable design that is easy to use. And it just so happens that they are also great computers. Do you want to buy one?“

Let’s explore the four domains of potential in regards to Why, how, and what, because people, in the long-term pursue meaning, and not ego.
